It can be said that that those who are avid off road explorers are passionate about their rigs, their good times, but most of all they are passionate about taking care of the trails that they wheel on. I'd like to share with you the story of a group of individuals who stepped up to the plate, came together as an amazing team that turned around a situation that could have been pinned on the wheeling community, and instead were able to turn it around to make a profoundly positive impact on the way our community is viewed in the eyes of the everyday people.

To them, I say thank you from the bottom of my heart, not just as a member of the Board of Directors for the Four Wheel Drive Association of BC, but also as a parent of a teen, and as someone who is married to my 4x4 world. The photos attached to this article are not my own, but are from those whose heart and soul made this work so well.

      Grad Camp Clean Up

      _____________

May long weekend is always a tough one for carnage it leaves behind. Besides the toll it takes on people through reckless or drunk driving, it seems to bring out just about every horror imaginable for camp sites and our beautiful BC wilderness. In many ways being an off roader resembles a parent, and you are constantly teaching the rules of, "tread lightly, clean up after yourself," and are often left shaking your head at how people use and abuse the beautiful world that we live in.

This weekend takes a particularly heavy toll on the areas along West Harrison that are car accessible; as the saying goes, "good roads bring bad people and bad roads bring good people." Luckily, we also have good people who travel those good roads to get to the areas they care about, dealing with things they believe should be dealt with, and making sure the parties responsible are truly held accountable for their actions.

In the wheeling world we have more good folks than we do bad; it's fortunate that the few folks that can't see past their selfish nature are few, but unfortunate that the damage they do is primarily what the city folks see, ...

12th Annual Stave Lake Cleanup and Access Rally

Please join the Four Wheel Drive Association of BC for it's 12th Annual West Stave Lake Cleanup and Access Rally on June 14th.

This year is a very important year to show your support and desire for continued access to the West Stave Lake area as BIG CHANGES ARE COMING! The District of Mission is moving forward with their Interpretive Forest Plan and the access rights of 4x4 vehicles are threatened. More information about the Interpretive Forest Initiative is here; http://www.mission.ca/forestry/missi...retive-forest/ and here; http://www.mission.ca/wp-content/upl...l_Handout2.pdf

Come out, bring your 4x4 and help us show Mission how popular 4x4ing is to the community of Mission and surrounding communities.

Join us for Tim's coffee at 9 am. The cleanup itself starts at 10 am and runs to 4 pm. Last year saw an amazing 52,888 pounds of garbage, 2,794 pounds of metal, 374 pounds of tires removed by 84 people and 3 dump trucks and one backhoe.

Thus far, we have commitments from C&C trucking, Davies Sand and Gravel and the District of Mission to supply drivers and dump trucks to transport the garbage to the Mission dump. Mission has once again waived the tippage fees for our event.

Lunch will be provided and Tim Horton's coffee will be available.

I hope to see you there.

STAGING AREA. We will be meeting at the upper parking lot for the boat launch which is 1 kilometre north of Dewdney Trunk Road and Burma Road.
